PE?ALOSA VS MATUMLA SET IN CEBU OCT. 30

The much-awaited return to the ring of former WBC superfly boss Gerry Pe?alosa takes place at the world-class Waterfront Cebu City Hotel on October 23 against Tanzanian Mbwana Matumla.

"Yes, it will be held there," said a staff of Jemah's Mark Roces, the event's promoter. Roces is also the new manager for the southpaw Penalosa.

This latest twist was also confirmed yesterday by both Penalosa and Bebot Elorde Jr, who is arranging the main event, as well as the supporting bouts for the card.

Sources close to the situation have informed that among those being lined up to see action in the undercard are Cebu's Wyndel Janiola and Juanito Rubillar, both world-rated fighters.

Pe?alosa has not seen action for close to a year since he annexed the fringe World Boxing Foundation superfly title at the expense of Thai Bangsaen Sithpraprom on November 27, 2004 in Para?aque.

Early this year, Pe?alosa flew to the United States, hooked up with American promoter Murad Muhammad, and trained under Trainer of the Year awardee Buddy McGirt in Orlando, Florida.

However, Muhammad had failed to snag a fight for Penalosa in the United States, prompting the latter to return to the country.

Weeks ago, Penalosa was in Cebu, serving as the chief sparmate to Japanese Daisuke Naito, who is challenging WBC flyweight kingpin Pongsaklek Wongjongkam on October 10 in Tokyo, Japan.
