Philippine Sports Commission chair Butch Ramirez will officially declare open tomorrow the 19th Visayas Inter-City Developmental Amateur Boxing Championship at Tagbilaran City's Island City Mall in an opening program to be attended by simonpures 16 years old and below.

The young participants to this tournament, which is also dubbed as Mayor Dan Neri Lim Cup , are set to arrive in Tagbilaran today. The tourney's concept is to regionalize the inter-city boxing on the developmental level, said a cource.

Host Tagbilaran City, which has alloted a budget of P100,000 for the event, is fielding one team, while Bohol Province and Bohol Selection, made up of fighters from Balilihan, Talibon and Cortes, are fielding one team apiece.

Tournament director Nemesio Monton, in an interview, also said that the other teams set to see action are defending champion Cebu, Bacolod, Cadiz, Dumaguete, Mandaue City, San Carlos City, Talisay City, Tacloban City, and Misamis City in Leyte.

The event, patterned after the Cuban system, is set until this Sunday. Among the categories to be competed in are: Kalamay Weight (32 kg); Minimumweight (34 kg), Powderweight (36 kg); Vacuumweight (39kg); Paperweight (42kg); Pinweight (45 kg); and Light flyweight (48 kg).

Participating boxers have been required to submit original birth certificates. Boxers who have participated in previous inter-city tournaments or other recent ABAP-sanctioned events need not submit.

The knock-out system will be applied in the tournament, with each bout a four-rounder consisting of one and a half minutes per round, and one minute in between rounds.

The Inter-City Amateur Boxing, reputed as the only one of its kind in the whole country, has already produced such big names as ex-WBC flyweight boss Malcolm Tu?acao, Yukka Gejon, Olympians Harry Ta?amor and Arlan Lerio as well as OPBF champs Rodel Mayol and Randy Suico, WBF world junior welter champ Dindo Casta?ares, and Z Gorres.
