Filipino-Australian Heath ?The Heat? Ellis whose mother is from the Philippines is training very hard for his defense of the IBF Pan Pacific and WBC Asia Boxing Council welterweight titles at the Town Hall in Malverbn, Victoria on April 9.

Well-known and multi-titled Victorian ?Promoter of the Year? Peter Maniatis told us that Ellis sparred ten rounds with former Australian champion Eddie ?Psycho? Delic and ?looked very sharp.? Maniatis said Ellis is just two pounds over the weight limit and should have no trouble making the weight

Maxwell in a newspaper in his state of Tasmania has said he is ?planning an early assault on Ellis and thinks he can knockout Ellis before 6 rounds." Ellis responded by saying he has trained hard for this fight on April 9th and knows Maxwell has power in both hands but he feels confident of beating Maxwell.

If Maxwell?s last three fights are any indication then he does have power. He won one by knockout and two by TKO. In his last fight on March this year Maxwell scored a first round knockout over Wayne Martin. Earlier on December 11, 2009 he won by a stunning second round TKO over highly favored Matthew Paulley and then on October 21 won by a third round TKO over Jimmy James.

The 27 year old Maxwell, nicknamed ?Super? has a record of 6-3 with4 knockouts according to boxrec.com while the 21 year old Ellis has a record of 12-1-1 with 6 knockouts. Ellis is coming off a six round unanimous decision over Aswin Cabuy.

Promoter Peter Maniatis said "l think Heath Ellis is one of the best prospects in Australia and Heath's idol is Manny Pacquiao, Heath always asked me what was it like to interview Manny Pacquiao? when Maniatis was in Manila some months ago for a luncheon hosted by Solar Sports at the Crowne Plaza Hotel along Ortigas Avenue.

Maniatis predicted that when Heath defends his IBF Pan Pacific title and WBC Asia boxing council title against Steve Maxwell ?the crowd will see fireworks, as Maxwell has been baiting Ellis in the press with predictions of a early knockout win.?
