PACQUIAO’S EYE IS FINE

Pound-for-pound super hero Manny Pacquiao’s right eye is fine, except for a slight swelling caused by a couple of stiff right hands he caught in the almost flawless performance in his total domination of former welterweight champion Joshua Clottey before almost 51,00 fans at the fantastic Dallas Cowboys stadium of Jerry Jones.
Respected WBC ring physician Dr. Allan Recto who was in the ring and near Pacquiao’s corner during the fight told us “there is nothing to worry about” even as he stressed there was no basis for speculations about a detached retina or cataract emphasizing "there is no basis to it at all."
Dr. Recto said Pacquiao underwent an eye exam as required by the Texas Division of Licensing and Regulations which is in effect the Texas Boxing Commission before the fight and he was cleared while there was no indication that Clottey’s punches which were few and far between did any damage to Pacquiao’s right eye except for the swelling underneath.
Conditioning expert Alex Ariza who spent some 20 minutes alone with Pacquiao after he arrived at his home in Los Angeles said reports of an eye injury were “not true” and the post-fight examination showed nothing.
ABS-CBN reporter Dyan Castillejo reported that Pacquiao didn’t go to the Wild Card Gym as he normally does a day after returning from a fight because trainer Freddie Roach was in New York for the Amir Khan’s WBA light welterweight champion’s defense against Paul Malignaggi news conference as a buildup to their WBA light welterweight title fight on May 15.
She also told us she couldn’t understand why there were critics claiming it was a boring fight and that Pacquiao’s performance was disappointing stating that she felt it was a superb and dominating performance and even the international media felt the same way.
Meantime, the large Filipino community in Dubai and other middle-east countries who followed the action in the Pacquiao-Clottey fight on Sunday over The Filipino Channel of the giant broadcast network ABS-CBN are excited over the possibility that the “Fighter of the Decade” will make an appearance when younger brother Bobby Pacquiao fights on the scheduled “Philippines vs Rest of the World” fight card on April 9 at the Dubai Tennis Stadium.
However, Pacquiao's trusted adviser Michael Koncz said that when Rex "Wakee" Salud mentioned it in Texas, Pacquiao made it clear "Bobby is retired" even as Koncz said Bobby is "not going to come out of retirement for a measly $20,000. There's no point. He is enjoying life now. He jogs with Manny, he is in great physical condition and Bobby works hard when Manny trains. He is the only fighter that can keep up with Manny" when jogging.
Koncz clarified that Bobby Pacquiao "doesn't do any punch-mitts or anything like that. He's a training mate and he's happy now and content' and said that Pacquiao looks after his younger brother.
Longtime Pacquiao assistant trainer Nonoy Neri who was quoted by Gulf News while in Texas said “We are excited to be in Dubai and meet the Filipino fans and non-Filipino fans of Manny.
The owner of KO Promotions which is staging the event in cooperation with the famed ALA Gym of boxing patron Tony Aldeguer, Zack Taumafai, said “Manny will be here during the fight. He will be here for two days. He’s the special guest for the event.”
Former world title contender Rey “Boom Boom” Bautista (27-2, 20 KO’s) who is slowly recovering from surgery on his left wrist will continue his comeback mission while undefeated WBO No.1 rated minimum weight and reigning WBO Asia Pacific minimum weight champion, WBA Intercontinental light flyweight champion and WBC Youth Intercontinental flyweight champion Milan Melindo will also see action on the exciting card which will include promising Jason Pagara and colorful Larry “Bon Jovi” Canillas.
