Rey "Boom Boom" Bautista should start getting used to celebrity life this early.

The WBO Asia Pacific bantam champ may be a destructive genius inside the ring, but he has yet to find an antidote to parry a surfeit of invitations who have been beating each other this early to his door--even before he could set foot in Cebu.

The 19-year-old Candijay, Bohol native is set to plane in today at 9:30 in the morning, and the Cebu boxing fans are now all agog over his arrival, a virtual red carpet awaits him at the Mactan-Cebu International Airport.

Cebu sportsman Antonio L. Aldeguer, who manages Bautista, informed yesterday that his ward is indeed arriving today, and will then meet the media in a special press conference that Aldeguer will host for him noontime at the members-only Cebu City Sports Club in Ayala.

Aldeguer also announced that Bautista will then proceed to Bohol on Thursday morning, where a grand welcome is readied by local officials.

Candijay Mayor Sergio Amora Jr. has indicated that his town will celebrate Bautista's arrival with a grand parade around town.

"We will have a victory parade upon his return and the municipal government will confer on him a plaque of appreciation for bringing pride to our town," Amora said in an earlier interview with Cebu Daily News.

Meanwhile, Aldeguer also announced that Philippine Basketball Association commissioner Noli Eala has called him up yesterday, asking for Bautista's presence when the league opens another season on October 2.

Eala, according to Aldeguer, wants Bautista to do one of the ceremonial tosses for the event, along with pound-for-pound icon Manny Pacquiao.
