The giant broadcast network ABS-CBN feted the stars of the “Pinoy Power III/Latin Fury 13” fight card which turned in excellent ratings over the network’s pre-eminent Channel 2 and its global channel TFC at the executive lounge on Friday afternoon.
ABS-CBN president and CEO Gabby Lopez welcomed the fighters led by Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire who was accompanied by wife Rachael, welterweight Mark Jason Melligen and featherweight world title contender Bernabe “The Real Deal” Concepcion.
The affair was well attended and the fighters felt very much at home in the network where their fights under the promotional arm of Top Rank would be aired under a two year agreement between promoter Bob Arum and ABS-CBN which was signed during a visit to Manila by Arum and Lopez some months ago.
Channel 2 manager Cory Vidanes and Vice President for Sports Peter Musngi were among the top officials of ABS-CBN who attended the affair where the fighters were presented in a lively and entertaining program hosted by top lady reporter and sports personality Dyan Castillejo and this reporter.
All three winners were presented with ABS-CBN jackets which they wore after being interviewed about their future fights.
Donaire said he is looking forward to a possible May 8 fight against Puerto Rico’s Eric Morel in Mexico while Concepcion said he would report to the Wild Card Gym of Freddie Roach in April to begin training for his planned title fight against WBO featherweight champion Juan Manuel “Juanma” Lopez in June.
Melligen said he would soon return to Las Vegas to continue training for his next fight scheduled sometime this April.
All three fighters demonstrated another side to their ring savvy by singing and dancing to the music provided by a trio and vocalist who entertained the guests who included Michael Ngo, one of the top executives of Asia Brewery.
