Rey Anton Olarte.
Rey Anton Olarte, a Filipino who has apparently taken Australian citizenship, has scored his first win in his last five fights with a six round unanimous decision over fancied Australian light middleweight Pat Rullo.
The fight took place at the Cranbourne Racecourse in Victoria.
All three judges scored the fight for Olarte. Judge Dale Westerman scored it 57-57. Tony Marretta 58-56 and Wayne Ashhdown 58-56 all for Olarte.
With broke a losing streak by the Filipino turned Australian and improved his record according to boxrec.com to 10-12-3 with 1 knockout while Rullo dropped to 9-2-1 with 1 knockout.
The one thing that struck us about Olarte has been his fluctuation in the weights at which he fights.
In the bout against Rullo who weighed 153 ? pounds Olarte came in at 149 which gave Rullo a 4 ? pound advantage at the weigh in which meant the weight advantage could have grown by fight time.
In fact in his fight against Leonard Zappavigna when he dropped a six round unanimous decision last July 24, Olarte tipped the scales at 135 ? pounds which means he went up almost 14 pounds to fight Rullo.
