Michael Landero successfully retained his RP minimum-weight title when he defeated Roel Lagunero via a unanimous decision by the scores of 114-113, 116-111, and 116-111 in last night’s main event of the Pagcor Paranaque Royal Rumble, held at the open parking space of the Pagcor casino in Paranaque City.
The bout was a hotly contested affair with both fighters slugging it out for the full 12 rounds. Landero, who represents the late Rod Nazario’s Wild Card Gym of Paranaque, was emerging better in most of the exchanges with heavy blows to the body and head although Lagunero, who fights out of the Tiger City Gym of Mandaluyong kept the crowd on their feet most of the way with stinging blows to Landero’s chin. There was no knockdown in the fight even though both fighters were absorbing heavy blows from each other - credit is given to each of them for excellent conditioning.
In the bout supporting the main event held at the 124-lb limit, Jhuriel Ramonal of the Wow Magic Sing Stable of Binan City scored an upset over Leonardo Doronio when he nailed the latter with a big shot and followed it up with a barrage of punches that sent Doronio reeling all over the ring. Seeing that Doronio was no longer able to defend himself, the referee mercifully stepped in to stop the fight. The time was 1:06 of the second round.
Rounding off the results of the card:
Ronald Pontillas scored a 2nd round TKO victory over Ronnel “Tarver” Esparas in their 131 lb. fight scheduled for 10 rounds;
Remy Cuambot won his 8-round bout over Jayson Rotoni via a split decision in their 107-lb fight;
Allan Tanada proved too quick for Christian Abila and dealt the latter his first professional loss by scoring a 2nd round KO in their 123 lb. fight scheduled for 8 rounds;
Jeffrey Cerna scored three knockdowns en route to defeating Ruther del Castillo via a UD in their 8-round flyweight fight;
Arnold de la Cruz defeated Renar Mendajao via a 2nd round TKO in their 4-round super-flyweight bout;
Aljun Ozabel defeated Rap Rap Ramonal via a third round KO in their 4-round 124-lb fight; and
Zoren Pama overcame a 1st round knockdown to come back and defeat Michael Manguiran via a split decision.
