WBO light flyweight interim champion, undefeated Johnreil “Quadro Alas” Casimiro is set to g et a title shot at undefeated Puerto Rican champion Ivan “Iron Boy” Calderon, according to Rick Reeno of the widely ready boxingscene.com site.

Reeno said he had learned that the WBO is ordering the title fight between the hard-hitting Flipino Casimiro who has a record of 14-0 with 8 knockouts and Calderon and wants both sides to begin negotiations as soon as possible.

Casimiro is handled by Filipino promoter Sammy Gello-ani in partnership with international matchmaker and promoter Sampson “Picasso” Lewkowicz.

Casimiro won the interim title with a sensational 11th round TKO victory over Cesar Canchila of Colombia, dropping Canchila once in the 3rd, 6th and 9th rounds and twice in the 11th before the fight was stopped at 1:40 by referee Jose Hiram Rivera in Managua, Nicaragua last December 19.

Canchila had previously beaten current WBA world champion Giovanni Segura to win the interim title but lost the crown in a rematch.

Casimiro had earlier won the vacant WBO Asia Pacific light flyweight title with a 5th round TKO over Liempetch Sor Veraapol of Thailand on October 3, 2008. He then won a unanimous eight round decision over Allan Ranada on May 8, 2009 before a successful title defense in which he scored an 8th round knockout over tough Ardin Diale on May 28, 2009. The 35 year old Calderon has a record of 33-0-1with 6 knockouts.

Calderon retained his title with somewhat controversial decisions in back-to-back battles with Filipino Rodel Mayol who went on to win the WBC title with a strunning 2nd round TKO over Edgar Sosa and will defend his title against former champion Omar Nino Romero in Mexico on February 27.,

Calderon was unable to continue in his first bout against Mayol because of a cut from an accidental head-butt in round four with the fight ending in a draw at Madison Square Garden when judge Tony Paolillo scored it 58-56 for Calderon, Tom Schreck 58-56 for Mayol and Steve Weisfeld had it an even 57-57.

In their rematch on September 12, 2009 Calderon won a 7th round technical decision when Calderon was unable to continue due to an accidental clash of heads with two judges, Ruben Garcia and Julie Ledernan scoring it 68-65 for Calderon and Carlos Colon 68-65 for Mayol for a majority decision for the champion.
