Z “The Dream” Gorres took PAL Flight 107 at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas on Sunday, February 14, 2010 with his wife Datches on their return to the Philippines after a successful surgery and rehabilitation in Las Vegas following his collapse after his win against Colombian Luis Melendez on November 13, 2009. Dr. Benito Calderon and his wife, Sophie, accompanied the couple on their flight back to Cebu City to ensure Gorres’ safety.
A big number of well-wishers were in attendance at Las Vegas McCarran International airport to see Gorres leave for home. Tony Martin and his family and Frank Slaughter with his son, the prime mover, of Z Gorres’ bill and fund-raising were there and very much happy for Z Gorres.
Mark Jason Melligen who was fresh from his successful and convincing win of his previously undefeated opponent, Raymond Gatica at Pinoy Power 3 via 6th-round TKO last Saturday at Las Vegas Hilton Pavilion Center was also there along with Pinoy boxer Diosdado Gabi and his wife.
Ate Fe who always open her house to Filipino boxers in Los Angeles, California was also there with friends Ronald, wife Charm and their 2 daughters. Of course, the couple that adopted Z Gorres and Datches at their house, Richard Legaspi and Yora Velasco were there, too.
Zen Laluna of Balita News Network and Bev Llorente and husband, David of ABS-CBN were there to cover Z Gorres return to Manila and eventually to his family in Mandaue, Cebu City.
Z Gorres said, he is very happy and excited to be able to go home, see his kids whom he did not see for a long time.
He again reiterated his appreciated and thanks to all the people that help him and his family in his hour of needs. Z Gorres discovered the Filipino “Bayanihan” and he is lucky to have experienced and benefited from it far away from home.
