GEJON THANKS PACQUIAO FOR SUPPORT

Unbeaten World Boxing Association no. 2 minimumweight Eriberto "Yukka" Gejon yesterday expressed confidence he will be more inspired to win the WBA 105-lb crown on September 25 after learning that pound-for-pound icon Manny Pacquiao will be at ringside to provide him morale support in his biggest fight to date.

The rangy Gejon (21-0-1, 13 KO's) challenges reigning champion Yutaka Niida (18-1-3, 8 KO's) of Japan at the 20,000-capacity Yokohama Arena.

Pacquiao, who is himself preparing for his September 10 showdown with Hector Velazquez in Las Vegas, had earlier told Gejon's manager Rex "Wakee" Salud of his intention to fly to Japan as a member of Team Gejon to cheer for his compatriot at ringside.

"It's very flattering to know that Pacquiao will be there to cheer for me on fight night. His support will surely encourage me to win the title," Gejon said yesterday in an interview from his training base at the Wakee Salud Gym.

Gejon is currently being holed up in an undisclosed location to keep him away from distractions as he enters the most crucial weeks before the fight. Gejon, according to a source, is now staying at a posh condominium unit owned by Salud, accompanied only by his personal conditioning coach, and boxers Jojo Bardon and Bogie Delada.

"I'm in the best shape in my life so far. With God's help, I will be able to bring back the world title with me after September 25. I'm ready to go," Gejon said.
