WBC Lightweight Champ Edwin Valero (L) from Venezuela remain unfazed as he takes on respectful challenger Antonio DeMarco from Tijuana, Mexico in 12 rounds of SHOWTIME Championship Boxing at the Arena Monterrey tomorrow, Feb 6.
Monterrey, Mexico (Feb. 5, 2010) ? Moments ago, inside the Arena Monterrey, WBC Lightweight Champion Edwin Valero (26-0, 26 KOs) from Venezuela who defends crown against Interim Champ Antonio DeMarco (23-1-1, 17 KOs) of Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico tomorrow, Feb. 6th, made the desired weights. Both fighters weighed-in at exactly 134.75 lbs. even (61.25 Kgs) for the upper limit of 135 lbs. in their division.
Valero?s manager Jose Castillo (prior to the weigh-in) at the Camino Real Hotel informed this writer, ?Edwin is ready. After this fight, he plans to go up to 140 lbs. and challenge for another title (belt). He plans to apply for a U.S. visa next month and get licensed so he could fight in the U.S. He wants a fight with anybody ? Amir Khan, Juan Manuel Marquez, Juan Diaz, Devon Alexander, Victor Ortiz or even Manny Pacquiao.?
Edwin Valero looked calm and focused on the way to the Arena. He seldom smiled. He managed to sign this boxing scribe?s WBC mini-belt. ?Gracias, Campeon!? (Translation- Thanks, Champ!), this writer managed to tell him.
DeMarco was very respectful and composed. There were no trash talk or untoward events when both fighters faced each other. DeMarco gulped on fluids (water/Gatorade) immediately after getting weighed. Antonio DeMarco told this writer, ?I feel very good. I give my respect to Valero. I don?t have any predictions. This is the most important fight of my life. I promised my wife I would try my best to win.? When asked that Valero has been saying before, he wants to fight Manny Pacquiao and if he (DeMarco) also desires to do the same should he win, he managed to laugh and say, ?Of course, every boxer in the world right now wants to fight Manny Pacquiao but I believe that everything comes at its own time.?

Valero left the venue hurriedly after the weigh-in. His trainer, publicist and representatives stayed behind to choose the gloves he would wear. Mario Morales, Valero?s trainer sees a win for Edwin Valero after the 6th round.
Al Berstein, SHOWTIME Sports Commentator stated, ?It?s an even match. If it goes past the 3rd round, I could see that anybody could win.? Showtime Sports presenting this fight card co-features for 10 rounds Argentinean Luis Carlos Abregu (28-0, 23 KOs) against Columbian Richard Gutierrez (24-3, 14 KOs) fighting by way of Miami, Florida. Both weigh-in the same at 147 lbs. even (66.7 kgs), the welterweights limit.
The rules meeting followed with WBC Supervisor Alberto Guerra from Panama together with WBC Executive Secretary Mauricio Sulaiman presiding. Representatives attended this from both camps, Team Valero and Team DeMarco with Gary Shaw Promotions, Zanfer Promotions and Top Rank, Inc. executives present.
Ring officials for the main event include judges - Steve Morrow (California), Oren Shellenberger (Texas), Marty Denkins (California) and referee from Texas, Laurence Cole.
