Z “The Dream” Gorres’ near miraculous recovery after brain surgery which many people attribute to his fighting heart and the attention and affection of his wife Datches and the Filipino doctors, nurses and friends in Las Vegas, will enable him to come home soon.

Dr. Ben Calderon, president of the Philippine Medical Association in Las Vegas, Nevada who has been in the forefront of taking care of Gorres told us that Gorres will watch the “Pinoy Power III/ Latin Fury 13” fight card at the Las Vegas Hilton on February 13 and leave for Manila the following day, arriving on the 16th.

At a fund raising dinner at the Salo Salo Filipino restaurant in Las Vegas last Saturday they were able to raise almost $4,000 while other activities, pledges and contributions reportedly raised the amount to some $10,000.

Dr. Calderon told us that Gorres could not undergo his therapy on Thursday because of a bad cough but after some medication the cough improved dramatically. He said the cough may be caused by his being on a ventilator for some three weeks which could have caused some irritation.

The doctor said besides watching the boxing to support his countrymen especially Ciso “Kid Terrible” Morales who stepped in to take his place in a title fight against WBO bantamweight champion Fernando Montiel on the fight card featuring five outstanding Filipinos headlined by WBA super flyweight Interim champion Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire against hard-hitting Mexican Gerson Guerrero, Gorres wants to watch the Lani Misaluchia show this Saturday.

Dr. Calderon disclosed that he would accompany Gorres on the flight to Manila.

Respected Cebu boxing patron Tony Aldeguer who nurtured Gorres’ career since he was a 9 year old boy was overjoyed over the recovery of Gorres and the fact that he is coming hope but at the same time was scrambling to make sure everything is ready for his return, his continuous therapy and an opportunity to lead a normal life.
