World Boxing Association 105-lb champ Yutaka Niida of Japan yesterday served strong notice to Filipino Eriberto Gejon, as he mercilessly pounded his sparmate during a public workout held yesterday at the Yokohama-Hikari Gym in Yokohama, Japan.
Niida, who will risk his title on September 25 against the tall and rangy Gejon, a protege of Cebu kingmaker Rex "Wakee" Salud, did four rounds of sparring against Mexican partner Luis Angel Martinez, who once vied for the WBC flyweight throne.
Niida, in an interview with the media, has informed that he has already some 120 rounds of sparring under him, and is in the best condition possible.
"Yes, Im in great condition, until one week before the fight (9/18), I will do my best training
with these two good Mexican partners. My strategy is not to box, but fight in the close range
to exchange hard blows with the tall and skinny challenger, as everybody expects my KO victory...," Niida told Japanese reporters.
Not to be outdone, Gejon has also told this writer the other day that he has been living in seclusion and is very focused for the fight.
