CEBU CITY--Randy "Komong Bato" Suico is slated to fly to Las Vegas this Saturday with his trainer as he prepares for his September 17 showdown with former IBF lightweight king Javier Jauregui underneath the Marco Antonio Barrera-Robbie Peden unification battle at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
"I am leaving on September 10 for the US, but on the 6th, I'll be in Manila to get my US visa," the dynamite-fisted Suico told this writer in an interview yesterday.
The WBC no. 4 Suico, parading a record of 23 wins, 1 loss with 20 KO's, stakes his lofty reputation in a 10-round bout with the Mexican Jauregui, a 63-fight veteran (49-12-2, 34 KO's).
Suico, who is expected to log in close to a hundred rounds of sparring for the fight, has indicated that he cannot afford to look past Jauregui, whom he describes as a "tough slugger with a good style."
Shuttling between the Wakee Salud Gym and ALA Gym, Suico spars with ex-OPBF welter champ Rev Santillan, Cesar Yarte, WBF junior welter king Dindo Castanares, and Ramil Caballes.
Apart from trainer Juanito Ablaca, Suico will also be accompanied in only his second American fight by his manager Joe Koizumi of Japan.
Should he hurdle past Jauregui, Suico hopes to challenge WBC superfeatherweight king Barrera, granting the latter also comes out victorious over the Australian Peden.
