MCTAVISH TO REFEREE VILORIA-TAMARA TITLE FIGHT

One of the most sought-after referees in this part of the world, Bruce McTavish, the New Zealander who has made his home in Angeles City for the past 40 years, has been named as referee for IBF light flyweight champion Brian Viloria’s title defense against hard-hitting Colombian Carlos Tamara at the Cuneta Astrodome on January 23.

McTavish, the respected international referee will also be officiating the main event at the “Bakbakan sa Sinulog” fight card at the Waterfront Hotel on Thursday where undefeated Milan Melindo faces American Anthony Villareal.

The judges will be Samsak Sirianant of Thailand , Ray Reed of Australia and Joe Garcia of the United States while Ray Wheatley of Australia will be the IBF supervisor.

The fight card titled “Collision Course” is a promotion of Solar Sports.

Viloria who has a record of 26-2 with 15 knockouts won the title with a spectacular 11th round knockout over highly-fancied Mexican Ulises Solis last April 19 at the Araneta Coliseum.

Tamara has a record of 20-4 with 14 knockouts and is known to be an aggressive fighter who will take the fight to the champion.

The title card which will also feature WBO minimum weight champion Donnie Nietes (25-1-3, 14 knockouts against Jesus “Negrito” Silvestre who has a record of 15-1 with 12 knockouts. Silvestre is a replacement for Ivan “Polito” Meneses who pulled put of the fight for unknown reasons.
