A group of prominent and civic minded Filipino Doctors in Las Vegas developed a website, www.zgorres.info, to spearhead a fund raising effort to cover Z Gorres’s medical expenses, as well as, all expenses related to his return home to the Philippines as he needs special accommodations to travel including a doctor and monitoring equipment.

They also prepared the above flyer that is also being distributed all over Las Vegas for those who do not have access to the website.

Z Gorres was the first of the four Filipino boxers who fought on November 13, 2009 at the House of Blues at Mandalay Bay Hotel & Casino In Las Vegas, a day prior to Manny Pacquiao’s fight against Miguel Cotto. Z Gorres of ALA Boxing Gym of Cebu was fighting that night under MP Promotions and Top Rank Promotions and was seconds away of winning it clean as he was leading in all 10 rounds. His performance was so impressive as he showed signs of defensive genius. He was so elusive with his body and head movements that Luis Melendez, his Colombian opponent was so frustrated all throughout the match. The fight was almost near its end when Gorres was knocked down when he was hit on the head almost 30 seconds into the end of the 10th round. He was able to beat the count, hung on to his opponent until the bell rang and his win was preserved on a unanimous decision. However, after celebrating his win holding the Philippine flag, he collapsed in the ring and was rushed to the trauma unit and underwent brain surgery.

This fight was supposed to be Z Gorres next step to a world championship match. He was robbed on two occasions of a world championship belt in spite of an obvious winning performances in his previous two tries. The first was against Mexican Fernando Montiel on February 24, 2007 for the WBO super flyweight title and the second was against Australian/Armenian Vic Darchinyan on February 2, 2008 for the IBF super flyweight title eliminator both held in Cebu City, Philippines.

Almost two months later, this miracle man as Z Gorres was called at University Medical Center was on his way to recovery. However, the left side of his body was still paralyzed. Z Gorres also faces uncertainties from his medical bills that keep on rising as the day goes by. There are already individuals and Filipino civic organizations, as well as, nurses from various hospitals who step up the plate to help and donated as a group when Datches, Z Gorres wife got the opportunity to talk to them in person during their Christmas parties and other gatherings.
