CEBU CITY--Telecommunications giant Smart, through its sports marketing head Patrick Gregorio, has indicated its all-out support to the January 14 "Bakbakan sa Sinulog" at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel here.
Gregorio, along with ALA Gym's Michael Aldeguer, met with a select group of local mediamen Tuesday evening, informing local scribes that Smart will do its part to make this event a huge success.
Top ALA fighters Milan Milendo and AJ 'Bazooka' Banal will headline the event against foreign fighters.
Gregorio also informed that aside from the pro fights, fighters from the national amateur training pool are also slated to see action "to help promote amateur boxing in Cebu."
Business tycoon Manny Pangilinan is slated to be at special ringside for the fight, according to Gregorio.
The undefeated Milendo (19-0, 5KO's) will challenge American Anthony Villareal (9-2, 4 KO's) for the WBC Youth Intercontinental flyweight title.
Banal (20-1-1, 16 KO's) takes on veteran Mexican Cecilio Santos (24-11-3, 14 KO's) in a ten-round non-title bout.
Villareal and Santos are slated to arrive tomorrow and will face the media on Saturday in a press luncheon at the Patio Isabel.
The two foreign fighters are scheduled to hold a public workout on Monday, 5PM, at the ALA Gym located inside the Banilad Town Center before the final press conference takes place on Tuesday at the Waterfront Hotel.
The official weigh-in takes place at the Entertainment Plaza of SM City Cebu on Wednesday starting 11AM.
The rest of the bouts will pit James Bacon against Thitichon Singwancha; Larry "Bon Jovi" Canillas versus Petch Twins Gym; Jojo Intor versus Romnick Hoybia and Joel Gadapan versus Jayson Inso.
