PACQUIAO WANTS MAYOL TO FIGHT MARCH 13

Superstar Manny Pacquiao has voiced his unequivocal support to the plans of having his protege, WBC light flyweight champ Rodel Mayol, to make his first title defense as an undercard to the huge March 13 event at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Sources close to Team Pacquiao have informed that the Filipino boxing icon will most likely communicate with the WBC to allow Mayol to fight on that card, possibly in a rematch with Edgar Sosa or against Omar Nino Romero.

"Pacquiao said he will personally make sure Mayol gets to fight in the March 13 card, as he wants to also have Mayol train alongside with him. He wants to monitor Mayol's training," a member of Team Pacquiao stated.

Mayol had won the WBC title in enemy territory in Chiapas, Mexico, easily knocking out Edgar Sosa in two rounds. Sosa was making the eleventh defense of his WBC title.

Sosa's team later asked the bout to be declared a no-contest, arguing that a headbutt gave Mayol an advantage in the fight, to which the WBC ruled in favor of the new Filipino world champion.

Apparently, Sosa could not hurt Mayol early in the fight, and the Filipino proved just too strong and talented than Sosa, forcing the Mexican fighter out of his comfort zone.
