The biggest boxing event in Singapore is set to take place on January 16, featuring world-rated fighters, at the 2,400-capacity Suntec Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Daniel Potter's Top Rated Boxing Promotions and its Singapore partner John Leung are putting up this world class event, dubbed "Professional Championship Boxing--A New Beginning, which will also feature local favorite and Singapore's only professional fighter Mohamad Nor Rizan.

"This is the beginning of our commitment to bring world-class boxing entertainment in Asia. We have made sure that fans will be treated to competitive and explosive match-ups," Potter, who heads the Bangkok-based Top Rated Boxing Promotions, informs the media.

Scott Mallon, the Vice-President of Top Rated Boxing, said: "This is a new beginning for professional boxing in Singapore and is the first step to achieving Top Rated Boxing’s primary goal; making Singapore the Mecca of Asian boxing. We will play
leading role in making Singapore a sports and entertainment hub by bringing the world’s best boxers to Singapore and having them fight in spectacular venues in front of record sell-out audiences."

The main event will feature Guyana's Leon Moore going up against Indonesia's Marangin Marbun for the Pan-Asia Boxing Associaition (PABA) superbantam title.

Moore, ranked in the top ten by both the WBC and WBA, will look to add to his four current titles (WBC Continental Americas, Caribbean, NABA and Guyana champion), when he takes on the number one ranked challenger in Asia, Marangin Marbun, who
currently holds the Indonesian title.

"I’m looking forward to the fight and giving the people of Singapore something to remember," said Moore, who has been training in Thailand in preparation for the bout. "Marbun is a strong boxer and this will be one of the toughest challenges of my career – but I’m confident that I have the skills, speed and power to beat him inside the distance. On January 16th I expect to have another belt to add to my collection."

On the undercard, local favourite Mohamad Nor Rizan, Singapore’s only professional boxer, returns to action in his first bout in Singapore since March 2007. Nicknamed "Scorpion," Rizan takes on China's Mao Yi Jun over six rounds.

"I’ve not fought that much in the past three years," said Nor Rizan, "but I’ve still got the same ability and now with my new promoter, Top Rated Boxing, I want to get as many fights under my belt as possible. Sooner rather than later, I want to be headlining the card and challenging for titles. I want to be Singapore’s first international champion."

The rest of the card pits Filipino Ariel Delgado against Japan's Zaragoza Uema; Thailand's Saddam Kietyongyuth against Korean Yong Jun Choi; Australia-based Filipino Ariel Barotillo against China's Congliang Xu; while the debuting Petchjai Yongyuthgym takes on Indonesian Sigiri.

Fight tickets are available from all Sistic Outlets, or book online at www.sistic.com. Ticket prices are S$188, S$158, S$118 and S$78.
