Fresh from a sensational second round TKO of Eilon Kedem (9-2-4, 6 KO’s), Filipino southpaw Eden Sonsona (17-5, 4 KO’s) will go for the vacant Philippine bantamweight title at the Ynares Center in Pasig City in an exciting fight card in honor of the late Rod Nazario today, Saturday, December 12 beginning at 4 p.m..
Well known TV analyst and veteran boxing man Moy Lainez who was an original Team Pacquiao member along with the late Rod Nazario who was both the business manager and mentor of Manny Pacquiao said the fighter who is now managed by Nazario’s son Romel, will fight Monico Laurente (10-5, 1 KO) of the Johnny Elorde stable for the title.
Top Rank promoter Bob Arum who put Sonsona on the “Fire Power” undercard at the request of Pacquiao told us that Sonsona “looked great” in his US debut at the MGM Grand.
www.insidesports.ph, Standard Today and Viva Sports has learned that should Sonsona win, Pacquiao will request Arum to match Sonsona against WBO bantamweight champion Fernando Montiel on Top Rank’s :Pinoy Power III” fight card at the Las Vegas Hilton on February 13.
Sonsona impressed some 18,000 fans at the Araneta Coliseum for the pay-per-view telecast of the Manny Pacquiao-Miguel Cotto “Fire Power” showdown who were privileged to receive a special satellite feed of Sonsona’s fight against Kedem through Solar Sports cheered wildly as Sonsona ripped into Kedem to give the Philippines a great start with some real fire power.
His fight against the shifty Laurente will be another test for the prot?g? of the late Rod Nazario whose son Rommel now manages Sonsona.
The card itself is an exciting one and the fights evenly matched with an eagerly awaited super flyweight title fight between Danilo Pena (14-5-1, 7 KO’s) and Marvin Tampos (19-10-2, 13 KO’s) likely to provide slam-bang action.
Also seeing action in a ten round bout will be talented welterweight Dan Nazareno Jr (11-3, 7 KO’s) who clashes with South Korea’s Jung Hoon Yang (3—1, 2 KO’s) and an eight round featherweight contest between undefeated Allan Tanada (3-0, 2 KO’s) and Japanese slugger Tadamasa Takashima (7-2, 4 KO’s).
The fights will be telecast on the weekly boxing show “In This Corner” over NBN Channel 4.
