Danny Green.

Australia’s Danny Green fulfilled his promise to knock out pound-for-pound king Roy Jones Jr when he stopped the former pound-for-pound king in the very first round of their world title fight at the Acer Arena in Sydney on Wednesday night.

ABC Sports in Australia quoted Green as saying, prior to the fight, that he possesses a punch in his armory that will knock out American superstar Roy Jones Jr "for a week" if he catches him clean in their world title bout.

The 36 year old Green who was defending his International Boxing Organization cruiserweight title against the 40 year old Jones started off aggressively and quickly connected with tnwo solid lefts and dropped Jones with a vicious right hook to the temple.

British referee Howard Foster was forced to step in and c all a halt at 2:02 of the round to save Jones from a further battering as he was clearly in no position to continue.

The stunning win by Green is considered a major upset because despite the Australia’s promise of a KO, bookmakers in Australia had installed Jones a huge favorite.

The first round ending is likely to signal the end of Jones’ career.
