Mexico’s Juan Jose “Goofy” Montes whipped the Philippines Fernando Lumacad in a one-sided ten round bout to retain his WBC Youth super flyweight title on Sunday afternoon Manila Time.

The fight was seen on the internet in the Philippines courtesy of the WBC’s innovative SuljosTV which was recently launched recently with the WBC light flyweight title fight in which Rodel Mayol scored a stunning second round TKO win over longtime champion Edgar Sosa.

Lumacad appeared bent on surviving against Montes who dominated throughout with flurries of combinations but never appeared to hurt Lumacad who put on another distressing performance that didn’t do justice to Filipino boxers who, epitomized by pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao are known as courageous fighters.

Lumacad’s manager Kenneth Smith who owns the American Boxing Academy in Digos in Southern Philippines clearly showed his utter disappointment when he told us in an emailright after the fight “He (Lumacad) took a beating for 10 rounds..He didn’t win a single round in my view.. Very disappointing.. Only thing I can say good about it is he showed heart by taking his beating..But taking a beating don’t win fights.. I am going to go get drunk now.”

Prior to the fight Smith said “.He is ready, and I expect he will show his stuff this time.. Its on baby!!!

But it was clear from the opening bell that Lumacad didn’t have the power to hurt Montes and didn’t have the skill or the aggression to cause any problems for the young Mexixan.

Lumacad who was trying desperately to recover from his widely-criticized 3rd round knockout loss to Mexican warrior Jorge Arce last June 27 in Atlantic City when he quit after being dropped when it was clear he could have beaten the count since he was hardly hurt, once again proved to be a major letdown.

The 23 year old Lumacad dropped to 21-3-2 with 8 knockouts was coming off back-to-back wins since the disappointing loss to Arce. He scored a 3rd round TKO over Rodel Veronque last September 3 although boxrec.com records indicate that Veronque hadn’t won a fight and was 0-8 in his career.

However, Lumacad scored a ten round unanimous decision in a fairly close bout against tough Nino Suelo last September 25 and was expected to go all out to redeem his reputation against Montes who has a solid record of 15-1 with 11 knockouts, but he didn’t.
