HALF-PINOY AUSTRALIAN ELLIS ADDS ANOTHER BELT TO HIS COLLECTION

Half-Filipino firebrand Heath “The Heat” Ellis increased his record to (11-1-1, 6 KO’s) as he scored a shutout win over Thailand’s Jakkirt Suwunnalirt (15-13-1, 6 KO’s) at the Malvern Town Hall last Friday night.
Ellis was coming off a bicep tendon injury that put him out of action for six months earlier this year. Ellis only appearance for the year was his fourth round stoppage over former PABA middleweight champion Dion McNabney in which Ellis won a record third Victorian state title in as many divisions.
The WBC Asian Boxing Council sanctioned the fight for their prestigious belt over twelve rounds for the interim version of their welterweight title.
Ellis displayed poise and considerable skill in dismantling his very experienced opponent in Suwunnalirt. Ellis dropped the rugged Thai with a crisp right hand followed by a damaging left hook in the third round. To Suwunallirt’s credit he recovered and put up a gallant performance. Suwunnalirt was always dangerous and looked as if he had come to fight.
Suwunnalirt, who stepped in to face Ellis after scheduled opponent Denkamol Kiatchanachai was involved in a motorcycle accident has scored a questionable draw with former Australian champion Shannon McMahon and went the distance with former IBF light-welterweight and current IBO welterweight world champion Lovemore Ndou. Suwunnalirt has also fought current interim WBO lightweight world champion Michael Katsidis, WBA #2 light-middleweight Daniel Dawson and former Commonwealth welterweight champion Fatai Onikeke. Suwunnalirt was also a 270-fight amateur veteran that proved to be a perfect step-up for the twenty-one year old Ellis.
Ellis proved that he can go twelve rounds, box well and is not just a left-hook slugger. Ellis is scheduled to fight in just under four weeks time at the Malvern Town Hall on the undercard of a WBC female world title fight between China’s Wang Ya Nan and Nigeria’s Charity Mukami on another Peter Maniatis promotion.
Maniatis is a good, well known promoter who knows the game very well and is willing to let the young charge Ellis mature with age. Maniatis believes that Ellis is one of the most marketable boxers in Australia today. The Ellis surname is no stranger to Australian boxing; some say the name is iconic..
Regularly appearing on the KO Boxing Show hosted by Peter Maniatis, Ellis has already featured several times in the Herald Sun; Ellis has also featured in Australia’s biggest sporting magazine Inside Sport. Ellis has all the ingredients to draw big crowds, the excitement the charisma and the punch.
Peter Maniatis along with Team Ellis have big plans in store for their dual regional champion in 2010 who now holds both the IBF Pan Pacific and interim WBC Asian Boxing Council welterweight titles.
