An 18-year-old former amateur standout from Canada is set to fly to the Philippines and hold training camp at the famed ALA Gym in Cebu in preparation for his plan to throw his hat into the professional ranks.

Joel Mills, who will be fighting either as a welterweight or junior middleweight (147-154 lbs), is considered top-of-the-line and has chosen Cebu as his launching pad for a professional career in the United States.

Los Angeles-based Michael Koncz, in an e-mail to this writer, informed that he might bring Mills to the ALA Gym to work out with WBO Asia Pacific bantam champ Rey Bautista and the other prominent fighters training inside the gym.

Koncz, who is the business manager for Bautista in the United States, is set to arrive in the country middle of this month possibly to confer with Cebu sportsman Tony Aldeguer and promoter Sammy Gello-ani regarding Bautista's future plans.

Earlier, both Aldeguer and Gello-ani faced the Cebu media to introduce Koncz as a "member of the ALA family" who will serve chiefly as Bautista's fight agent in the United States. To acknowledge the opportunity, Koncz, who together with Manny Pacquiao is also the co-manager for Bobby Pacquiao, had vowed to do his best to help out in making Bautista the next marquee Filipino name in the United States following the footsteps of pound-for-poud great Manny.
