Newly-crowned WBC Continental Americas super-featherweight champ Bobby Pacquiao can now look forward to focusing only on bigger fights ahead as he is now being managed by his older and more illustrious brother Manny and Los Angeles-based American-Canadian Michael Koncz.
Koncz and Manny Pacquiao had agreed on managing the affairs of Bobby while discussing issues over dinner at Koncz' Orange County residence last Saturday prior to flying back to the Philippines last Sunday.
Meanwhile, Koncz and Pacquiao also revealed that Bobby will not be seeing action on July 27 against Australian Billy Dib, as was reported earlier. "Manny and I have no knowledge pertaining to this alleged bout as we have had no discussions with nor, have we been contacted by any member of Mr. Dib?s camp. Nevertheless, we conclude that this alleged match up does not benefit the advancement of Bobby?s career at this point in time therefore, we will not pursue this issue," Koncz told this writer.
Koncz also informed that prior to Bobby Pacquiao's bout against Carlos Navarro for the Continental Americas belt, there was a verbal assurance given to K2 Promotions' managing director Tom Loeffler that should Bobby win the title, he would then fight on 2 or 3 subsequent cards to be promoted by K2 Promotions.
"Manny and I are persons of integrity and character therefore it is our intent to comply with this verbal agreement. As such, we are presently negotiating with Tom Loeffler for Bobby to fight on September 24, 2005, on the under card of Heavyweight Champion, Vitali Klitschko. In the event we are not able to reach an agreement with Tom for the 24th bout it is anticipated that Bobby will fight on the under card when Manny fights an undetermined opponent possible on September 10, 2005 in Los Angeles, California," Koncz clarified.
Koncz further explained that Bobby will more likely than not relinquish his Philippine Super Featherweight Title in order to concentrate and aggressively pursue more opportunities in America. "A formal announcement will be made in this regard in the next few days after we have the opportunity to speak with the Games and Amusement Board," he said.
It was also revealed by Koncz that when Bobby Pacquiao returns to the gym, he will continue to train at the ALA Gym in Cebu City, which was credited for Bobby's tremendous shape going into his fight with Carlos Navarro last July 17.
