Newly-crowned WBO superfly champion Marvelous Marvin Sonsona has moved his trip to Baguio Ciy on Sunday owing to inclement weather that has made the roads going to the country's Summer Capital not conducive to travel.
This was revealed yesterday by promoter Sammy Gello-ani and Baguio promoter Raffy Panagan, who owns the gym where the young champion will train.
If the trip finally pushes through on Sunday, the 19-year-old Sonsona will have joined boxing icon Manny Pacquiao in training at the high-altitude City of Pines, although they will not be sharing the same gym.
While Pacquiao is currently training at the gym inside the Cooyesan Hotel in Baguio, Sonsona will hold his workouts at the Raffy Panagan Gym inside the Slaughter Compound in Baguio City. The gym boasts of a boxing ring as well as a separate room full of weigh-training facilities.
"He will be training in my gym for free. I have the gym renovated already," Panagan told this writer yesterday.
Sonsona's co-trainer Nonito Donaire Sr has already arrived in Baguio and is just waiting for Sonsona and his team to arrive on Sunday.
Slated to join Sonsona in the Sunday trip are his manager Rajan Yraola and chief trainer Jhun Agrabio.
