Jhuriel Ramonal of the Wow Magic Sing Boxing Stable of Binan, Laguna scored the biggest win in his young career by knocking out former RP super-bantamweight champion Alex Escaner (Marty Elorde Stable) in the co- main event of the “Sagupaan sa Santa Rosa” (Encounters in Santa Rosa) held Friday night in the Brunsmick Compound of Engineer Araja who promoted the event. The bout was fought at closed quarters with both boxers trading shots mostly to the body. Ramonal was able to hold his own against his vastly more experienced opponent, even taking well the usual stiff punches of Escaner. The opportunity opened for Ramonal in the 8th round when Escaner let his guard down allowing Ramonal to unleash a big right hook that landed below Escaner’s ear sending him crashing instantly to the canvas. Escaner, out of sheer courage, tried to get up from the knockdown but was too dazed to beat the count. The official time was 27 seconds of Round 8. The fight was fought at 122 pounds and was scheduled for 10 rounds.
In the other co-main event scheduled for 10-rounds, flyweight Brix “Bomb” Ray of the Tony Dacer Stable engaged Rodel Quilaton (Gello-ani Stable) in a tactical fight where he often beat the latter to the punch. The busier Ray was rewarded with a win when Quilaton quit 47 seconds into the night round after absorbing a knockdown.
Rounding off the results of the other bouts:
Double Supporting Events:
Jessie Tuyor (Wow Magic Sing Stable) and undefeated Jethro Pabustan (Touch Gloves Boxing Gym) figured in a 3rd round technical draw after an accidental head-butt resulted into a huge gash above the eye of Pabustan rendering him unable to continue. The bout was fought at 112 lbs. and was scheduled for 8 rounds; and
Dino Lelis of the host Brusmick Boxing Stable pummeled the body of Julius Agcopra (Elorde Gilmore) for the entire bout to score 3 knockdowns enroute to a 5th round TKO win in a fight scheduled for 8 rounds.
Preliminaries:
Rey Perez (Brusmick) scored a knockdown that sent Matec Hantig (Randy Beron Boxing Stable) outside the ring enroute to a unanimous decision win (40-35, 40-35, and 39-36) in their 6-round flyweight bout;
Johnson Alde (Brusmick) broke his losing skid by gaining a split decision victory over Jun Piasidad (Elorde Gilmore) in their 6-round super-bantam bout (one judge scored 58-56 for Piasidad whilst the other two judges scored 58-55, and 58-56 for Alde, respectively);
Jericho Hizon of the Empemano Boxing Stable of San Pablo City backed his show-boating with boxing skills to beat Christian Rupa (Touch Gloves Boxing Gym) via a unanimous decision (59-54 twice and 60-53) in their 6-round bantamweight bout where the former also scored a knockdown in the 2nd round;
In a battle of hard-punchers, Jecker Buhawe of Afable Boxing Stable proved to have the heavier hands when he made the comebacking Climer Mendoza (Jaro Boxing Stable) quit in the first round in their 4-round junior-flyweight bout;
Roy Albaera (Brusmick) survived the hard body punching of Salvador Layson (Elorde Gilmore) with headshots of his own to earn a split draw in another 4-round junior flyweight bout (39-37 split on two judges’ scorecards and 38-38 on the third); and
Rey Loreto (Brunsmick) provided a good start for the host team by winning against Jobert Maranon of the Pewee Vasquez Boxing Stable) in their 4-round minimum-weight bout. Loreto scored 2 knockdowns but had to survive a spirited rally from Maranon who was unleashing wicked body shots in the latter rounds.
The successful event held amidst heavy downpour was promoted by Engr. Ariel Araja of the host Brunsmick Boxing Promotions whilst the matchmaking was handled by veteran matchmaker Jimmy Narvaez.
