World-rated Anthony "Rocky" Marcial and young boxing sensation Marvin "Marvelous" Sonsona will co-headline an SGG Promotions card tonight dubbed "Saga in Naga 2" in Naga, Cebu.
Marcial, undefeated in 13 fights with 12 KO's, is rated WBO no. 8 junior lightweight and holds the WBO Oriental superfeatherweight title.
The dynamite-fisted Marcial will take on veteran campaigner Jaime Barcelona of Bukidnon in a ten-round non-title bout.
The young phenom Sonsona, unbeaten in 11 fights with 10 KO's and rated WBO no. 13 flyweight, will also take on Cebuano Louie Bantigue in the co-featured 8-rounder.
If victorious, Sonsona is being groomed to face ex-world champ Wandee Singwancha in his next outing.
"These fights will be a gauge whether Marcian and Sonsona are ready to step up to the higher level and face better oppositions," said promoter Sammy Gello-ani, who was accompanied by WBO Asia Pacific chairman Leon Panoncillo at yesterday's weigh-in.
Another WBO regional titleholder, Johnreil Casimiro of Omega Boxing Gym, takes on Allan Ranada in another 8-round encounter.
The rest of the card are as follows: Elf Gitgano versus Kevin De la Cruz; Marvin Mabait versus Apol Suico; Richard Donaire of Arthro Gym versus Jeffrey Pulvera; and Ivan Purisima of Arthro Gym against Jun Salvador.
