NIETES KNOCKS DOWN RAMIREZ FOUR TIMES! RETAINS WBO CROWN IN MEXICO

WBO minimumweight kingpin Donnie Nietes made sure the judges will not be a factor this time, knocking down Mexican Erik Ramirez four times en route to a convincing unanimous decision win minutes ago in Oaxaca, Mexico.
The three judges scored the bout 115-109, 116-108 and 113-111 all in favor of the Filipino fighter, according to Juan Carlos Gubi of Boxnoticias.
Ramirez went down following a barrage of Nietes' punches in the first, fifth, ninth and twelfth round, and was clearly dominated by the highly-skilled ALA fighter.
A big right knocked down Ramirez in the first round, and was clearly on wobbly legs although he weathered the storm and finished the round.
Another big right downed the Mexican challenger in the fifth, but he showed enough durability to fight on.
Nietes' right again found its mark in the ninth round that sent Ramirez kissing the canvas again.
A big right from Ramirez seemed to have put Nietes in trouble in the final round, but when the challenger went in for the kill, the Filipino world champion unleashed another right that sent the Mexican down for the fourth time in the fight. Ramirez was in deep trouble following the knockdown, and could barely finish the round when the bell sounded.
"I came here to fight. I clearly lost? Nietes is a great champion no doubt and I hope to have another opportunity in the future," a dejected Ramirez told the media after the fight.
The win underscored Nietes' ascension as the best minimumweight fighter in the world today, as he clearly outshone WBA champion Roman Gonzalez who settled for a hard-fought majority decision on the same card over Mexican Francisco Rosas.
With the win, Nietes improves to 24-1-3, 14 KO's, and makes him now the legitimate star fighter of the ALA Gym.
