It was the most spectacular performance of the evening, in the event dubbed ?Battle of the Best Bantamweights.? Undefeated Jundy Maraon of Braveheart Boxing stable showed his class and the rationale why he is seriously considered as the next probable world champion.

Maraon scored the most spectacular victory of the night when he wrested Jason Egera's WBO Asia-Pacific bantamweight title with a very impressive knockout victory. ?Pretty Boy? hurled Egera to the canvas with a very potent left cross and the title holder was declared knocked out at 1:56 of the 3rd round.

The dethroned champion remained unconscious and has to be rescued with oxygen and was taken by stretcher to the dressing room. He later recovered as he was seen sitting and was eventually declared safe.

The Philippine ?Pretty Boy? thus preserved his winning record of 13-0-1 with 10 KO wins. At the start of the bout, Egera absorbed several left straights which resulted in the bleeding of his left eyebrow.

Bothered by the cut, and troubled with the powerful left punches by the southpaw challenger, Egera succumbed to Maraon?s intense force in the third canto where he fell unconscious. It was the best victory of the night, sadly though because it was a fight between two Filipinos and a Filipino was dethroned as WBO Asia-Pacific champion.

Maraon, the undefeated boxer from Suminot, Zamboanga del Sur but traces his father?s roots in Macrohon, Southern Leyte, has a very high 71.43% KO rate. Before his victory over Egera he was rated number 3 bantamweight by the Games and Amusements Board. Now he is on top of the Asia-Pacific as WBO champion.

Vice Gov. Manny Pi?ol have good plans for his dominant boxer, possibly a tune up fight abroad before going for the world title. He called Maraon ?a very exciting fighter.? He was able to train in the United States particularly in Watsonville, California.

Maraon was the alternate fighter in the undercard of the Manny Pacquiao-Oscar De La Hoya Dream Match in Las Vegas last December 6, in case Richie Mepranum did not arrive. But luck was not in a hurry for this tall boxer at 5?6?, as the fighter from Saranggani arrived to win over Cesar Lopez of El Paso, Texas.

He was not able to fight outside the Philippines yet and it is his dream of someday showing his wares internationally, especially in the United States where his magnificent punching power could be discovered and tested. He has the knockout power and the good looks to become a boxing superstar.

The pride of Zamboanga del Sur and Southern Leyte, Maraon was able to follow the footsteps of Southern Leyte?os Tacy Macalos (IBF champion) and Rod Seque?an (OPBF champion) in giving good name to the province by winning international boxing titles.
