Tough Daniel Ferreras benefited from point deductions slapped on Philippine super flyweight champion Danilo Pena to with the title by a majority decision in a fight card at the Ynares Plaza Gymnasium in Binagonan, Rizal over the weekend.

In another championship bout to be featured on the weekly boxing show ?In This Corner? telecast on NBN 4, welterweight champion Arniel Tinampay retained his title with a twelve round unanimous decision over young Dan Nazareno who is a legitimate light welterweight but growing.

Referee Ver Abainza deducted two points from Pena for accidental head-butts, one in the 8th and the other in the 11th round which cost Pena his title in his very first defense.

Two judges scored the fight for Ferraras who is trained by ?Tembong? Del Rosario 114-112 while the third judge scored it even at 113-113.

The southpaw Pena won the title with an 8th round TKO over Richard Olisa last June 20 in Palawan . The loss to Ferreras dropped his record to 14-5-1 with 7 knockouts.

Ferreras who was coming off a first round TKO of Samuel Apuya last October 18 improved to 8-2-1 with 3 knockouts.

Well known TV analyst Moy Lainez said there was no reason to complain about the referee?s deductions due to the head-butts but said in the end it made the difference. However, Lainez said overall it was a good fight between the rugged Pena and Ferreras who is a fighter.

Tinampay won comfortably over Nazareno on the scorecards of two of the three judges by margins of 117-110 and 118-110 but the third judge had the champion the winner by a slim 114-113 margin.

With the win Tinampay moved to 9-8-1 with 3 knockouts while Nazareno Jr dropped to 9-2 with 5 knockouts.
