Two of Mindanao's upcoming boxers will see action Dec. 12 in the undercard of the Urbano Antillion-Juan Ramon Cruz superfeatherweight encounter in Maywood, California which will be carried live by Telefutura, the Mexican sports television station.
Philippine bantamweight prospect Jundy "Pretty Boy" Maraon and featherweight Glenn "Rapid Fire" Gonzlaes will go up against still unnamed opponents, according lawyer Jeng Gacal who arranged the fights for the two Filipino boxers on instructions of boxing icon Manny Pacquiao.
It will be the first fight in American soil for Maraon, 23, since arriving in California in April of this year. Gonzales, also 23, will be making his second appearance having won his first fight on July 5 against American Robert daLuz at the Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas.
Maraon, currently rated No. 6 Philippine bantamweight and a native of Suminot, Zamboanga del Sur, while largely unknown to most boxing fans is considered as one of the brightest prospects of the Philippines for another world boxing title.
Standing 5' 6". the lefthanded Maraon has a fight record of 10 wins, 8 by KOs, and a draw. He is described by his trainers as as powerful puncher whose power could be compared to Manny Pacquiao's.
In his recent workout, Maraon knocked out cold an American amateur champion during a sparring session in the City of Salinas in Monterey, California where he and Gonzales are based.
Gonzales, a tall featherweight at 5' 7" and also a southpaw like Maraon, has a record of 7 wins, 4 KOs and 1 draw.
