Concepcion (L) and Otieno.
North American Boxing Federation (NABF) super bantamweight champion Bernabe ?The Real Deal? Concepcion will vie for the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) international featherweight title versus Sande Otenio at the Araneta Coliseum on January 11.
Dubbed ?Judgment Day in the Far East?, the triple main event card promoted by Jaro International Promotion in cooperation with Aim Global, will also showcase former world light flyweight challenger and Oriental Pacific champion Sonny Boy ?The Bullet? Jaro and RP miniflyweight king
Denver ?The Excitement? Cuello against separate foreign foes.
Otenio, a former WBC international super bantamweight champion, tots a record of 17 wins, 1 loss and 7 KO's.
The black fighter comes from Nairobi, Kenya.
?This card is for the benefit of the Mater Feliz Montessori Inc.,? declared promoter Aljoe Jaro who earlier disclosed that Concepcion backed out from a proposed WBO world title duel versus Juan Manuel Lopez of Puerto Rico in the undercard of the December 6 ?Dream Match? duel between Manny Pacquiao and Oscar De La Hoya due to weight problem.
?Concepcion has found it hard already to remain in the super bantamweight and there is no way but to invade the featherweight division,? said the promoter who owns a boxing gym in Binangonan, Rizal.
Otenio recently yielded his WBC international title on a fifth round technical decision to Balweg Bangoyan in Davao City. It was his first defeat and second fight outside Kenya.
He had won the title by whipping Marcel Kashimov Ice Palace Tyumen, Russia by unanimous decision last year.
?This will be an acid test for Concepcion who will be fighting for the first time in the heavier division,? Aljoe Jaro said.
Jaro said he had to sacrifice a lucrative offer for Concepcion to fight in the US before the year ends to test his mettle in the featherweight division.
