LAS VEGAS--Renowned Filipino boxing trainer Nonito Donaire Sr yesterday made it clear that the addition of unbeaten Edwin Valero to the camp of superstar Oscar De la Hoya will be a positive move as the latter prepares for boxing icon Manny Pacquiao for their Dec. 6 duel at the MGM Grand here.

Donaire, in an exclusive interview here yesterday, revealed that Valero arrived in Big Bear on Sunday ready to assist De la Hoya in his preparation against the fire-breathing Pacquiao, who is also training at the Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles.

Donaire indicated that before Valero went up the Big Bear, he held the mitts for the Panamanian fighter at the Top Rank Gym here, and was impressed by Valero's two-fisted power and improving lateral skills.

"The good thing with Valero is that he has solid power in both hands. Then he has tremendously improved his lateral movement," Donaire told this writer.

Apart from Valero, Team De la Hoya has also hired the services of Hall of Fame trainer Angelo Dundee to serve as consultant as he prepares for what he describes as "the biggest fight in my life" against Pacquiao.

Golden Boy Promotions announced the De la Hoya-Dundee tie-up in a special press conference the other day in Los Angeles.
