CEBU CITY--WBO Oriental bantam king Michael Domingo of the ALA Boxing Gym defends his title today against former world champ Ratanachai Sor Vorapin in a 12-round showdown headlining the "Daytime Boxing" card at the New Cebu Coliseum here.
Both fighters came in at an exact 118 lbs during official weigh-in held yesterday at the Cebu Grand Hotel supervised by GAB Commissioner Angel Bautista.
After the official weigh-in, both Domingo and Vorapin then posed for the media, showing their abdominal six-packs that had the crowd predicting a stretched out war today that inches the winner to a possible world title crack.
The bouts will be telecast "live" outside Cebu by Viva Prime on Destiny Cable starting 9AM today. A replay will be aired by Main Event next Sunday. The bouts will also be aired live in Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia, Vietnam and other neighboring countries.
If victorious, Domingo is slated to campaign in the United States next, said his manager Michael Aldeguer, son of Cebu's revered boxing godfather Antonio L. Aldeguer (ALA).
However, if Vorapin comes out smoking the victory cigar today, the Thai fighter may next defend his title against Filipino Jonathan Ba-at.
The chief support pits former WBA superbantam champ Somsak Sitchatchawal against local fighter Joel De la Cruz.
Sithchatchawal is best remembered for his showdown with Frenchman Mahyar Monshipour, nominated as 2007 Fight of the Year by the world's boxing experts, which he won to capture the WBA superbantam crown.
Four more bouts spice up the undercard, including a female bout between Thai fighter Usanakorn Kokietgym against Filipina Geremie Tabastabas.
