DOMINGO CAN FIGHT FOR A WORLD CROWN AFTER SEPT. 14

ALA Boy Michael Domingo is most likely going to inch closer to a world title fight should he beat ex-world champ Ratanachai Sor Vorapin on September 14 in the mainer of the "Daytime Boxing" card at the New Cebu Coliseum.

This was the observation yesterday of fight promoter Sammy Gello-ani, who said that a victory over the WBO no. 3-rated Vorapin will give Domingo an automatic top 5 ranking in the world.

Domingo, who will defend the WBO Oriental bantam title against Vorapin, is currently ranked WBO no. 15.

"You have to take into account that WBO champ Gerry Penalosa is fighting no. 1 Abner Mares next. If Gerry wins, he might decide to move up into the superbantamweight class. If Mares wins, then Domingo has a chance against him," said Gello-ani.

Domingo versus Vorapin will be aired 'live' in Thailand and neighboring countries like Burma, Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.

Gello-ani, meanwhile, has thanked the ALA group for allowing Domingo to fight in his promotion, noting that the fighter has just seen action in late July against Revo Rengkung.

A native of Libac, Sultan Kudarat, Domingo stormed into boxing prominence with a one-sided beating of the erstwhile unbeaten Miguel Roman at last year's World Cup in Sacramento, California.

Domingo, along with promoter Gello-ani and boxer Joel De la Cruz is scheduled to be the main guest for this Sunday's "Pinoy Boxing" program starting 630PM over RMN-DYHP.
