Mayol Defeats Diale, Wins RP Light Flyweight Crown

Experience prevailed over youth as Rodel Mayol defeated Ardine Diale via a split technical decision to become the new Philippine Light Flyweight Champion. The fight was the main event of the Shadow of Salvation RP Light Flyweight Championship held at Puerto Galera, Mindoro Oriental.

Mayol utilized his quickness and ring savvy to outbox the equally talented but less experienced Diale for most of the rounds. Unfortunately, the fight ended in an uneventful manner when it was stopped in the 7th round upon the advice of the ring physician due to the cut suffered by Diale resulting from an accidental head-butt earlier in the round from which Mayol was deducted a point. Mayol was also deducted a point in the third round from another Diale cut when the two clashed heads in that round. Two judges had it 67-65 and 66-65 respectively for Mayol while the third judge saw Diale ahead 66-65.

Mayol?s victory is expected to put him back on course for another chase of a world championship crown in the future. For the Mindoro-based Diale (he fights under the Ylagan Stable), the loss should be considered a temporary setback as he was pitted with an opponent who is vastly superior to him in terms of ring experience.

The hometown boxers, Junel Alibio and Albert Alcoy, both from the Ylagan Stable, provided some degree of consolation for Diale?s loss by winning their respective bouts. Alibio defeated Richard Agagad by TKO in the second round while Alcoy prevailed over Edwin Tumbaga via a unanimous decision.

For the results of the other bouts:

Vincent Palicte defeated Jongjong Gagante by a 2nd round TKO;
Jonard Abonales defeated Genesis Mabalot by a 6th round TKO;
Roberto Gonzales defeated Esmalbin Bujas by a 1st round TKO;
Vic Cinti defeated Albert Calaus via a majority decision; and
Rex Olisa defeated Jerson Buhawi by a 2nd round TKO.
