VANCOUVER, Canada ? Filipino boxing promoter and manager Jay R. San Pedro, who is now in Toronto (six hours by plane from here), has informed this writer he was willing to meet officials of the Canadian Professional Boxing Federation and Canadian Athletic Commission in a hope to locate the right promoters for San Pedro?s plan to bring some of his boxers here in the future.

We told San Pedro he needs to fly here as we are meeting Dr. Dan Buie, chairman of the Canadian Professional Boxing Federation, who arranged a meeting with us in Victoria.

Also, Pat Boomhower, meeting coordinator of the Office of the City Clerk of Vancouver, has arranged another meeting with George Angelomatis, chair of the Vancouver Athletic Commission.

San Pedro said his more than 20 boxers now training in Tiger City Boxing Gym in Mandaluyong City, Philippines need more exposure not only in Thailand and Japan, but also in the United States and Canada.

?Part of my trip here is really to look for promoters and link with them,? San Pedro said. ?If I can contact the right authorities, I am thinking of giving them the chance to fight here like in the United States where there are lots of Filipino boxers now.?

We also asked San Pedro to link with Daniel Gagnon, chair of the Quebec Athletic Commission. Gagnon has links with major promoters in the area.

San Pedro extended his trip in Toronto following the postponement anew of the title shot of his prized ward Jun Talape who will challenge Oriental Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) super bantamweight champion Wethya Sakmuangklaeng of Thailand in Bangkok on Sept. 5

?Three times na napostpone ang laban ni Jun from July to August 27 and now Sept. 5 na naman. I was just informed by Dr. Nasser Cruz (Games and Amusement Board boxing chief). Talagang naapektohan na si Jun pero OK lang lalaban pa rin kami,? San Pedro said.
