CEBU CITY -- Bobby Pacquiao landed a spot on left straight to the chin of Decho Bankluaygym in the 8th round of their WBO Oriental lightweight contest here tonight that sent the Thai crushing to the canvas unable to beat the count allowing Pacquiao to claim the championship belt.

So hard was the impact of Pacquiao's punch that Bankluaygym was later administered with an oxygen to be able to recover.

Filipino ring icon Manny Pacquiao's younger brother lead the bout early as he repeatedly tagged the game Thai with lefts but got into trouble when Bankluaygym forced him to mix it up. Bobby's cornerman Buboy Fernandez wisely told Pacquiao to calm down and continue to box to regain the upperhand. Bankluaygem was also knocked down by Pacquiao in the 6th round.

In the co-feature bout of the evening, OPBF champion Rolly 'Matsushita' Lunas retained his title with a unanimous decision win over Kaonah Khlongphajon of Thailand. Lunas was in control of the fight most of the night hitting his opponent with solid combinations but just couldn't put away the very durable Thai. The scores were 117-109, 118-109 and 116-112 all in favor for Lunas.

Long-time Manny Pacquiao sparring partner David Rodela of Guadalajara, Mexico scored a 4th round TKO victory over Arnel Porras when Porras refused to continue to fight after being hit by an apparent hard left to the body which the referee ruled as low blow. Rodela also scored a knockdown in the 2nd round.

In a battle of former Philippine champions, Marvin Tampus won by disqualification when Eric Barcelona hit too many low blows. Barcelona was deducted two points because of the low blows in course of the fight but the last one hit Tampus so hard that sent Tampus limping on the canvas for a long time.

Veteran Jaime Barcelona won by UD over Daryll Pucdol in a close and entertaining bout. Both fighters had their moments but the durable Barcelona always came back stronger during the exchanges.

In a special attraction, PhilBoxing writer and doctor, 'the Fighting Doc' JV Tuazon fought to a 4-round majority draw against Jarol Rosales. Tuazon had the upperhand in the first three rounds but Rosales came back strong in the last round.

Hot prospect Mark Anthony Geraldo (7-0-0 4KOs) of Kibawe, Bukidnon, fighting under Leonil Lazarito's Leolet stable, continues his march to recognition with a TKO win in the first round over Buboy Fernandez's boxer Esrael Salud (1-1-0). The smaller Geraldo came in at 111 lbs to the taller and bigger Salud's 116 lbs during yesterday's weigh-in but the weight and height disparity did not prevent the smaller guy to stop the bigger guy with a well-timed left cross to the chin that left Salud rolling on the canvas.

Other results:

- Jetly Purisima UD over Roilo Golez
- Ryan Tampus TKO 1 over Ghing Daculiat / Time: 54 seconds of the 1st round
- William George UD over Marlon Alta
