CEBU CITY--Bobby "The Sniper" Pacquiao will attempt to win the prestigious WBO Asia Pacific lightweight title when he takes on Thailand's Decho Bankluaygym in the main event of tonight's "Road to Redemption" card at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel here.
Both Pacquiao and Decho came in at an exact 135 lbs during official weigh-in yesterday supervised by WBO Asia Pacific chairman Leon Panoncillo.
Superstar Manny Pacquiao's trainer Buboy Fernandez, who will work BobPac's corner tonight, said that if the younger Pacquiao comes out victorious, a fight in the United States will be immediately worked out.
"Bobby trained hard for this fight. We are going to win this title and look for bigger things ahead," said Fernandez, who works with the legendary Freddie Roach in Pacman's corner.
Decho, meanwhile, has said that a win over Pacquiao would be a huge thing for his career, and a huge financial bonus promised by his promoter Kokiet Panachiyarom, plus the fact that his wife is four months pregnant of their first baby, will give him added motivation to edge out Pacquiao, who came with his mother Dionesia during the weigh-in.
GAB Chairman Eric Buhain will be at ringside for tonight's event, as well as boxing division chief Nasser Cruz.
The co-feature will showcase OPBF bantam champ Rolly (Lunas) Matsushita against Thailand's Kaohan Klongphajon, while Manny Pacquiao's sparmate Mexican David Rodela also sees action against dangerous Filipino Arnel Porras.
The younger Pacquiao is hoping to bounce back from a first-round knockout defeat at the hands of Mexican Urbano Antillon last March in Las Vegas.
The event is presented by Manny Pacquiao's MP Promotions in association with Rex 'Wakee' Salud's RWS International. Salud was not present at yesterday's weigh-in.
Other undercard bouts: Marvin Tampus versus Eric Barcelona; Darryl Pucdol vs Jaime Barcelona, Jetli Purisima vs Roilo Golez and Ryan Tampus vs Ghing Daculiat.
Marlon Alta takes on William Jorge; Ryan Tampus battles Ging Dacoliat; and Israel Sapo Salud goes up against JV "Fightdoc" Tuazon.
