ZAMBOANGA CITY--Local hero and WBO Oriental featherweight champion Eric Canoy will defend his title for the first time today against huge favorite Terdsak Jandaeng this morning at the 8,000-capacity Zamboanga City Coliseum here.

The battle will match three-time world title challenger and WBO no. 9 Jandaeng against WBO no. 14 and WBO Oriental champion Canoy in the main event of a card dubbed "Thrilla in Zamboanga" promoted by Congressman Erbie Fabian's Blue Stallion Promotions and SGG Promotions.

Both Games and Amusements Board (GAB) Chairman Eric Buhain and WBO bantam king Gerry Penalosa are slated to be at special ringside as guests for this morning's event, said Congressman Fabian in an interview.

Canoy and Jandaeng both came in at an exact 126 lbs during official weigh-in yesterday at the Marcian Garden Hotel in the city.

The event is set to start nine in the morning, as the Canoy-Jandaeng battle will be aired 'live' in Thailand so Thai fans can follow the fight of their idol Jandaeng, the three-time world title challenger.

WBO Asia Pacific Chairman Leon Panoncillo will personally supervise the main event between Canoy and Jandaeng.

Canoy versus Jandaeng is a classic boxer-puncher match-up, where both camps have expressed readiness to take on each other.

The local hero Canoy trained at the ALA Gym in preparation for this fight, while Jandaeng whipped himself into perfect form at the Kokiet Gym in Chiang Mai, Thailand under Filipino trainer Jojo 'Pogi' Palacios.

The event will be telecast by Viva Sports' top-rated boxing show ?The Main Event? on Sundays at 9:00 p.m. over IBC 13, sponsored by Tanduay, the No.1 Rhum, PAGCOR and PCSO.

Two other Thai fighters also arrived with Team Jandaeng, namely Narindech Sakchatree and Saenpetch Sor Sakulphan who will battle Federico Catubay and Felix Tanamor, respectively.
