BANGKOK--Jason Egera, a young fighter from Siaton near Dumaguete City and fighting out of the Touch Gloves Boxing Gym, took the vacant WBO Asia Pacific bantam title today with a shock seventh-round stoppage of local boy Pichitchok Singmanassak at the Omnoi Municipality?s Gymnasium in Samut Sakhon, Thailand.
Egera, taking the initiative early, knocked down Singmanassak twice in the fourth with wicked body shots before scoring yet another knockdown in the sixth again following a shot to his foe's breadbasket.
In the seventh, another big blow to the body downed Singmanassak and referee Sawaeng Thaweekon did not bother to toll the count for a fine stoppage by the young Filipino fighter who was leading on three judges' scorecards before the fight was halted.
Official time was 1:37 of the seventh, according to WBO Asia Pacific chairman Leon Panoncillo who supervised the fight, and Egera now improves to 10-2, 5 KO's according to record-keeper Boxrec.com.
Lady promoter Paniyakorn Ratanasuban, the latest to embrace the WBO title among the many WBO-licensed promoters in the Asian scene, indicated that she might bring back Egera to Thailand to defend his title.
Egera was assisted in his corner by trainer Boy Sonsona, manager Elmer Anuran and Noli Bassig.
