The IOC changes the rules and allocates $10,000 to every Olympic athlete, regardless of whether they win a medal.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has announced a new program called the "Fit for the Future Olympian Grant" during its 146th Session in Lausanne, Switzerland. This program has a projected budget of $140 million per Olympiad for each athlete who qualifies for the Olympic Games.

The president of the IOC Athletes' Commission, Spaniard Pau Gasol, announced the $10,000 grant, meaning each athlete will receive direct financial support, regardless of their performance or the support of their federation or National Olympic Committee.

It is expected that approximately 14,000 athletes will be included every four years, with the funds distributed through the National Olympic Committees (NOCs).

It has been reported that the first recipients of the "Fit for the Future Olympian Grant" will be athletes competing in the upcoming Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games.

Athletes applying must hold Aa accreditation for an Olympic Games starting with Milan-Cortina 2026.
