Young fighter Archie from Team England, who just won gold, pointed out that tournaments like this “is giving them opportunities that they never would have got”, facing top opponents from all over the world. At this tournament alone, there was 72 countries.
Facing diverse fighting styles and high-pressure competition directly helps them become better athletes. These “hard fights” and “ring experience” are crucial. Archie explained that “even if you don’t come away with the Gold, you’re fighting the best in the world.”
Travis, another gold medalist also representing England, agreed, pointing out how these tournaments help them get fights. “It’s hard to get fights in your own country” and fighting for gold on a global stage is “a very big achievements. Not many people get to do that at a young age”.
Hilary Mack, former world champion and current WBC Muay Thai Scotland, highlighted that many young fighters “struggle to find opponents their weight, age and experience in their own countries.” This festival solves that problem.
The new exhibition categories are especially helpful for this. It helps fighters under 10 years old and -35kg get valuable rounds against good opponents without the pressure of a full fight.
Mack also praised the “talent of the juniors [which] is amazing” at the tournament, showcasing the high level of competition. These experiences support the development of young athletes in other countries by gaining experience early on.

As Archie passionately said, “The WBC is doing a lot of things for Muay Thai at the moment.” He continued, “It’s getting more kids in the sport so that they can travel around.” Travis added that it’s also about “making friends all over the world.”
Archie was thrilled about the unique opening ceremony being in the Verona Arena. “It’s a whole different experience to what we’re used to.” Travis chimed in, highlighting how his highlight of these tournaments “is you get to go to fly to other countries and fight.”
These festivals are smartly planned to let kids explore and understand other cultures. They get to “explore the cities and country.” This mix of fighting and exploring really enriches their journey, turning them into true global citizens. As Archie put it, “Muay Thai has turned into a culture.”
