Cuban Heavyweight targeting big fights in 2025
Lenier Pero has signed a co-promotional deal with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom and Boxlab Promotions.
Pero has cruised to 11-0 in the paid ranks with eight of those wins coming inside the distance, and the Cuban Heavyweight is looking for a sixth straight stoppage win when he returns to action against Detrailous Webster over ten rounds for the WBA Continental Americas title at Caribe Royale in Orlando on Friday April 18, live on DAZN.
‘El Justiciero’ is looking to kick on and capitalize on his #4 ranking with the WBA in 2025 as he continues to build on his amateur pedigree, with the 2016 Olympian a habitual champion in the vest as a two-time Pan American Games gold medalist, before turning pro in May 2019. The 32 year old, who famously caught the eye with a sickening body shot stoppage of fellow amateur stand out Viktor Faust in San Antonio in February 2023, is looking forward to getting back into action next month and sending a message to the Heavyweight division.
“I’m excited to take this next step in my career with Matchroom and Boxlab Promotions as my co-promoters,” said Pero. “Together, we’ll bring my journey to the world stage, and I’m ready to show everyone why I’m an undefeated force in the Heavyweight division. The time is now to take my career to the next level.”
“We’re delighted to welcome Lenier to the Matchroom team,” said Hearn. “The Heavyweight division is always evolving, and Lenier has the tools to become real contender. We’re excited to be working with Amaury and the Boxlab team on Lenier’s progression, and we’ll be looking for him to make a big impression on the division this year.”
“I’m thrilled to be working with Eddie Hearn and the team at Matchroom on advancing Lenier Pero’s career,” said Amaury Piedra, Boxlab Promotions. “This former Cuban Olympian has passed all his tests in the pro ranks earning a top ranking with the WBA. Now is the time to join forces with Matchroom so we can together take him to new heights and show the world this future Heavyweight champion.”
