PARIS Olympic double gold winner Carlos Yulo will be awarded the Athlete of the Year award by the Philippine Sportswriters Association on January 27 at the Grand Ballroom of the Manila Hotel in Manila.

The 24-year old gymnast Yulo is the only Filipino to get two gold medals in more than 100 years of participation in the Olympiad.

"From a great Olympic performance to an even greater Olympic show, and from one big breakthrough to an even bigger breakthrough — thanks to Carlos Yulo whose giant feat we will celebrate in handling him our highest accolades," according to PSA President Nelson Beltran.

Yulo is the first artistic gymnast in 28 years following multiple SEA Games medalist Pia Adelle Reyes to get the prestigious Athlete of the Year honors from the oldest media group in the country.

Before competing in the Paris Olympics, Yulo brought home four gold medals at the 2024 Men's Artistic Gymnastics Asian Championships.

After that, Yulo showed off his great gymnastics skills in his return to the Olympics where he won golds in his favorite events, floor exercise and vault.

Because of this, Yulo made history as one of the greatest Pinoy athletes of all time.

It can be recalled that Yulo also won Sportsman of the Year by the sports news website Spin.ph, People of the Year by Stargate PeopleAsia Magazine, and Outstanding Filipino Gamechanger award for Sports by the 5th Gawad Balisong of JCI Batangas Balisong.
