SOME of the boxers have no gold medals at stake in the Batang Pinoy 2024 at the San Jose National High School in San Jose, Puerto Princesa City.

“Only silvers were won since there is no more time,” said veteran national referee Nathaniel Ballarda of Davao del Sur.

The boxers from the junior boy’s pin weight [44-46kg], junior boy’s lightweight flyweight [46-48kg] and junior boy’s flyweight [48-50kg] only reached the semi-finals.

The boxers were only allowed to fight one time every day.

“Some of them couldn't finish it in five days,” said Ballarda, a former Philippine super flyweight boxer before he graduated education.

The 5-day event from November 24 to 28 was too short and boxing should have been started on November 23, Saturday.

The boxers have only until November 28 as the final day of tournament. But some of them were finished.

Aaron Rienn Pardillo of Davao del Norte outpunched Arphan Muhammad Uddin of Mandaluyong in the finals of the junior boy’s bantamweight [52-54kg].

Rodel Butil of Bohol defeated Maasim’s Almer Zach Entia in the Junior Boys light bantamweight [50-52kg] while Cris Angelou Conson [Cebu] crushed Kyle Lawrence Borja [Bohol] in the junior boy’s featherweight [54-57].

“This is the first time that gold medals were not at stake,” said Ballarda, who fought 70 fights as a professional with 36 wins, 8 knockouts, 19 loses and 15 draws.

He was supposed to arrive November 22 in Palawan but was delayed at the airport and was able to fly November 26.
