BMC held successfully at GAP Farms Resorts

IT WAS a successful two-day event capped with a 60th birthday celebration at the GAP Farming Resort in Green Meadows, Ma-a, Davao City.

The 1st Kapitan Omar Duterte Basic Mountaineering Course was held last August 24-25 organized by the SCOOP [Sports Communicators Organization of the Philippines] Davao.

The BMC was handled by Mountaineering Federation of Southern Mindanao [MFSM] Chairman Julius Paner, Training Director Ryan Adalim, Project Director Dan “Jhune” Bacus and MFSM President Gene Jimboy Sumampong

Paner, who is also the Senior Tourism Officer of Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur, talked about “Tourism Promotion” while 57-year-old Bacus of Davao City, on the other hand, spoked about the “Leave no trace Values” and “Attitude Climb Preparation”.

Adalim, who is a trainer of Disaster Assistance and Rescue, discussed the “Basic knot tying Uses”, “Familiarization of equipment”, “Basic first aid” and “Basic bandaging”.

The 52-year-old Sumampong, who is also a former chief of Urban Search and Rescue Central 911, talked on “Back packing”, “Tent fixing” and “Trail ethics”.

“They were able to walk a trail similar to Mt. Apo ,” said Lito delos Reyes, editor of SCOOP News Davao.

The official participants were Eduard Gani, Majar Villapaz, Cristine Villapaz, Honeylet Quinanola, Cynthia Martal and 14-year-old Yom Shenielle Mosura.

“They were able to walk a trail similar to Mt. Apo,” said organizer Lito delos Reyes, editor of SCOOP News Davao.

Also included in event were Candice Zoie Torres, Zianna Casley Teves, Lambsbread delos Reyes, Yeshame Mosura, Joserizaldy Zaspa, M Mosura and LA Delos Reyes.

Delos Reyes and SCOOP Davao Sales and Marketing head Kizia Marie Teves gave the prizes and certificates while the host in the event was Eden Ascano.

“The climbers or would-be climbers were equipped, skilled and well-trained mountaineers already,” said Delos Reyes, who turned 60 last August 26.

The event was sponsored by Panoramic Summit Hotel, Department of Agriculture Region 11 Director Macario D. Gonzaga, Realbuild, Amesco, Kurmat Enterprises, Petron Monteverde, Kinetix, Nature’s Spring Water, Pidoks, Ring Master Boxing, eM Food Hub, LLG Design and Printing, Gabon Mountaineers, Camp Apo, Reponte's Meat Specialties, Forest Outdoor, Outside Angle and The Boatman.
