
4 veteran mountaineers to conduct BMC in GAP

FOUR veteran mountaineers will conduct the Basic Mountaineering Course in the 1st Kapitan Omar Duterte BMC set on August 24 and 25 at the GAP Farming Resort in Green Meadows, Ma-a, Davao City.
They are Mountaineering Federation of Southern Mindanao [MFSM] Chairman Julius Paner, Training Director Ryan Adalim, Project Director Dan “Jhune” Bacus and MFSM President Gene Jimboy Sumampong.
Paner, who is also the Senior Tourism Officer of Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur, will talk about “Tourism Promotion”.
The 57-year-old Bacus of Davao City, on the other hand, will handle the “Leave no trace Values” and “Attitude Climb Preparation”.
Adalim and Sumampong are both trainers of Disaster Assistance and Rescue.
Adalim, who is from Astorga, has been mountaineering since 1996. He has worked as a BMC instructor in 2015 up to present.
Adalim, 44, has been a rescue volunteer since 1998 and up to present. He has also worked in the disaster office from 2010 to 2022.
He will discuss the “Basic knot tying Uses”,“Familiarization of equipment”, “Basic first aid” and “Basic bandaging”.
The 52-year-old Sumampong, who is also a former chief of Urban Search and Rescue Central 911, will chat on the “Back packing”, “Tent fixing” and “Trail ethics”.
“This resource persons are the best in Mindanao,” said Lito delos Reyes, editor of SCOOP News Davao.
The climbers or would-be climbers will be equipped, skilled and well-trained mountaineers.
Registration fee is P1,500 with free event shirt, certificate, event ID, bag tag, free pass at venue and swimming pool, snacks, materials needed during actual application, raffles and freebies.
